Virgilio Barco Public Library is one of the four major libraries in the Network of Public Libraries of Bogotá – BiblioRed.
The library opened its doors to the community on December 20, 2001 and since then, has become a center of social and cultural development. It is located in a central location surrounded by parks and sport areas and a recreational complex, which serves the residents of Teusaquillo, Chapinero Engativa, Barrios Unidos, Los Martires and Puente Aranda.
It has pleasant spaces combined with a varied and innovative programming, which arouses a particular interest in reading, writing and art events for children, youth and adults.
The architecture of this library is integrated with the landscape and the environment, creating an atmosphere of peace, contemplation and relaxation. For this reason, it is an architectural landmark of Colombia.
It offers ample space for reading and lit corners where you can enjoy the natural landscape that surrounds the park. Its design was conceived from a circular structure surrounded by bodies of water, which create a calm, placid and friendly athmosphere around the library.
