Bibliored is the network of public libraries in Bogota, administered by the Secretary of Education of Bogota. Composed by 3 major libraries, 6 local 9 neighborhood libraries and a bookmobile library. All are connected among them and located at strategic points of the city.
Each library is an important research and learning center as well as a space for the community to enjoy cultural events at no cost. The services they offer are for:
The main programs they offer are an hour of story telling, art workshops, origami and film camps. For young adults and adults they have literature, theater workshops, art shows and creative writing among others.
They also take their services to jails, hospitals, foundations and rehabs.
There is no membership fee for children under 12 and the cost for everyone else is CP$5,000.
The Bookmobile carries books and activities to promote reading and culture to outlying areas of Bogota that don’t have a public library nearby. The bus is located in the towns of Usaquen Engativa, Suba, St Kitts and Usme, Monday to Saturday, between 8 am to 4 pm; it can also be found in the Citizen Service Fair each locality. Its collection consists of 2,000 volumes, including books, audiovisual material and multimedia. They also carry newspapers and magazine subscriptions.
